A grouping calling itself ‘Citizen Advancement for Economic Revolution’ has described the Anti-Ashok Nair demonstrations scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday as criminal in nature.
This statement however comes barely hours Chief Executive Officer for Lilongwe City Council (LCC) Lawford Polani announced the cancellation of the demonstrations in a letter dated February 2022 saying the matter being protested is in court.
Meanwhile, addressing members of the media in Lilongwe this afternoon, team leader Redson Munlo argued that Nair also has the right to be heard and that the ACB Director General Martha Chizuma is not immune to prosecution.
The grouping has also asked Chizuma to disclose the name of the person she was talking to in her leaked audio recently.
While on the other hand, Organizers of Anti-Ashok demonstrations have said the protests will proceed as planned even though Lilongwe Council has withdrawn the permission it granted earlier to the Citizens Against Impunity and corruption.
According to Sylvester Ayuba James, one of the organizers of the demonstration, the council does not have the mandate to either grant or deny permission for citizens to demonstrate because it is the populace’s constitutional right.
According to Ayuba Jame, they will go on and demonstrate as planned while describing the decision by Palani to cancel the demos as baseless.
