Divisions have erupted among purported royal family members in Senior Chief Malemia’s Chieftaincy in Nsanje, some have joined those agitating for his removal, claiming that has no regard for them while others are backing him, saying such calls are unjustifiable.

Speaking to the press appearing before a commission of inquiry probing allegations bordering on Senior Chief Malemia’s leadership style, one of those against him Milika January, claims the traditional leader favours the Mazoe’s, “he is there because of us, we played a vital role for him to be where he is now, but he does not recognize us as his relations.

She added, “we have identified his successor, Idesi Nyson, whom we believe will serve us well.”

Contrary to the claims, Malita Binzi from Chiphwembwe, described such calls as “baseless,” saying they are ignorant of the issues being raised.

On Monday afternoon, the commission of inquiry being chaired by Paramount Chief Kawinga of Machinga, heard from a group that has been holding vigils at Nsanje district council in an attempt to force government to remove Chief Malemia.
