Organizers of demonstrations that were supposed to take place today have shifted them to Friday, but this time against Lilongwe District Commissioner Lawford Palani whom they are accusing of standing in the way of people trying to fight corruption.

In a letter signed by one of the organizers, Ayuba James, they have faulted Palani for canceling the permission he had earlier granted, saying the decision is meant to protect a corruption suspect; hence an “urgent need” to pay him a “notable visit”.

The organizers, under the banner Citizens against Impunity and Corruption, wanted to camp at corruption suspect Ashok Kumar Sreedharan’s house or keep going there until he withdraws his defamation case against Anti-Corruption Bureau Director-General Martha Chizuma.

James says the demonstrations will be led by Joshua Chisa Mbele and Levi Luwemba, assisted by himself and that up to 100,000 people are expected to participate.
