President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has said women play a crucial role in society hence the need to openly appreciate such efforts.
The Malawi leader’s remarks come on such an occasion as globally, women are celebrating International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8 annually.
“Today, being International Women’s Day, let me openly celebrate all the accomplishments and sacrifices our women and girls are making to transform Malawi. Women form a very key constituency of our daily livelihoods and their immense contribution to this country’s development agenda remains inestimable,” said Dr Chakwera.
The President notes that this year’s theme, #BreakTheBias, challenges the nation to give women and girls equal opportunity in all spheres of human advancement for them to fully exploit their capabilities.
“Remember, attainment of gender equality is everyone’s responsibility,” he added.
Dr Chakwera pledges that his administration will continue making women an integral part of the national development agenda through appointments in key leadership positions and investment in their wellbeing.
