Leader and founder of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has said his bursary scheme should not be politicised.

Bushiri was speaking yesterday in Lilongwe when he unveiled the bursary scheme which is aimed at benefiting at least 5000 needy students with user fees.

Speaking to the media, Bushiri stressed that move is being done out of goodwill and not to show off.

According to Bushiri it pains him to see Malawian students dropping out of school due to lack of school fees.

“Some capable Malawians fail to offer assistance in various areas for fear of being tarnished as having political interest. The bursary scheme is a sacrifice to the nation and not anything for show-off,” stressed Bushiri.

He then called every Malawian student who is below the age of 27 to apply for the scholarship and while appreciating government’s effort to bail out needy students, he urged people and other stakeholders who can manage to assist students in need to emulate the gesture.

“This scholarship is open for every student and it’s for those below 27- years-old. We appreciate government for what it is doing in the country that is why we have taken this step to assist our government because government cannot reach out to everyone, it is not possible. This should be a call for other Malawians of goodwill to do the same,” he said.

The man of God has also encouraged those who will benefit from the scheme to help others in future.
