Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi Limited (ESCOM) has promised to install transformer tomorrow in Machinjiri following closure their of Chichiri offices by angry residents of Magombo and Gong’ontha villages .

In the morning, the residents locked ESCOM Chichiri Powerhouse demanding electricity months after being in a blackout following busting of their old transformer.

Doset Juma, who is secretary for the concerned residents, said that they have stayed for two months without electricity.

A meeting of ESCOM officials, the police and the resident was marred with tempers from the onset but later a consensus was reached to move on with peace.

ESCOM’s regional manager for the South Gilbert Chodzadza has assured to install the transformer during that closed door meeting that lasted for an hour.
