Three people from the same family have died after they were swept away by running waters in Namandanje River which they attempted to cross, in the area of group village headman Mwikala under Senior Chief Liwonde in Machinga.
A surviving child of the family, Raheem Tepani says his parents went to Ntaja Health Center to seek medical attention with a two-year-old child but found the river flooded and still attempted to cross, leading to the tragedy.
Community policing member for the area Frank Kalosi says they managed to recover the bodies of three after several attempts due to the current status of the river.
Meanwhile, Ward Councilor for the area, Jenas Makunganya says the death of the three is a wake-up call for them to construct a reliable bridge on the river.
