A POLICE officer from the paramilitary Battalion in Lusaka has ended his own life by plunging in Zambia longest watercourse, the Kafue River.

Last week, another police officer from Mansa shot himself dead while on duty to include his name to the list of growing suicide cases in the country.

According to Kafue Times, Kafue Police Station Officer In-Charge Jason Lungu confirmed the death of Chilufya Chisakula.

An impeccable source divulged that Chisakula is said to have taken the fatal dive into the river about 30 minutes after midnight.

The source disclosed that Chisakula who came from Lusaka to visit his friends and family in Old Road bridge compound opposite Muyanganas was heard diving in the river near the road bridge by people who reside within the vicinity after a drinking spree.

One of Chisakula’s friend whom he was drinking with wondered why his fellow police officer would commit suicide as he never complained of any problem during the time they were together.

“Yes we cannot rule out suicide but I think we need to carry further Investigations to ascertain the actual cause of his death, it may be that he fell in the river accidentally” he said.

Chisakula’s body has since been retrieved from Kafue River and has been deposited in the Kafue General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
