Police in Chipata have discontinued investigations in a case where a 56 year old man died whilst having sexual intercourse with a married woman after his family did not allow for a postmortem to be conducted on the body of the deceased.

Acting Eastern Province police Commanding officer Kennedy Chibwe said the move by the family not to allow for a postmortem has put the police in an awkward position.

Mr Chibwe said the cause of death cannot be established without a postmortem.

Peter Mulendema who was a volunteer at Madzimoyo clinic died last week.

The woman that the deceased was having sex with used the phone of Mulendema to inform his close friend that her lover had fainted and left the scene.

When people visited the scene, they found condoms in the room where the deceased’s body was.

Police had instituted investigations into the matter.
