Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 33 year old man for allegedly defiling his 11 year old step daughter on multiple occasions for three years.
Lilongwe police publicist Hastings Chigalu has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.
According to Chigalu, the suspect started defiling the girl when she was nine years old and threatened to kill her if she revealed her ordeal.
He said after watching a Nigerian movie where a girl was going through a similar ordeal, she summoned courage and wrote a letter to her grandmother who took the issue to Lilongwe police station which led to the man’s arrest.
Chigalu said the man is currently on remand at Maula prison awaiting trial.
