A Civil Society Organization by the name of Mzuzu Young Voices is set to hold demonstrations against Asians residing upstairs of shop buildings in the Central Business District of the city.

In a demonstration notice to the Mzuzu City Council and copied to Mzuzu Police Station, the group’s Executive Director Gift Mlenje said this is one of the reasons they have been compelled to hold demonstrations on 22nd March so that all people residing in these places must be removed.

The grouping further claims that Asians living in the Central Business District do not follow hygiene rules and are putting lives of many Malawians at risk of contracting diseases.

However, Mzuzu City Council Spokesperson McDonald Gondwe hints that there is no law which bars people from residing within the city’s Central Business District.

The grouping also wants to voice out their concerns against corruption and labour rights violations of Malawians working in shops owned by foreign nationals.
