Chief Resident Magistrate Jean Kaira in Blantyre has suspended a warrant of arrest she issued this morning on Dr. Noel Kayange for contempt of court.

The magistrate has, however, fined the doctor with K10, 000 for not obeying a court order that demanded him to testify today in a case where Andrew Ngomwa was convicted for rape and defilement.

Lawyer for Dr. Kayange, Bruno Matumbi, told the magistrate this afternoon that his client failed to show up because he is in Lilongwe for a meeting at the Norwegian Embassy.

Magistrate Kaira has adjourned the matter to next week Monday when Dr. Kayange will testify before Ngomwa, who is waiting for sentencing, closes his case on mitigation through his lawyer.
