A man is allegedly on the run after duping his wife huge sums of money collected during an engagement ceremony in Lilongwe.
The suspect has been identified as Harry Chimkango.
It is alleged that Chimkango met the woman on social media and after a lengthy relationship they agreed to have an engagement ceremony in the capital Lilongwe on March 3, 2022.
“The guy stays in Blantyre and is married and met the girl on FB and arranged for an engagement, he left BT telling his wife kuti akupita ku Lilongwe kukathamangitsa za business, iye kupanga hire anthu ena kukamuimilira ukhoswe and eventually they had their engangement celemony.
“Soon after the function he said he will take the cash for safe keeping so that the following Monday him and the side chick should go to the bank and open a joint account so that they may keep and deposit some more monies for the wedding, koma nkati mwausiku anangoti akawaone akhoswe ake kuti awauze zina zochita,” said an eye witness.
He added: “Ulendo unali omwewo.”
Meanwhile, the matter has been reported to police.
