Former Minister of Homeland and DPP Vice President for Central region Uladi Mussa who is serving a five-year sentence for abuse of office has applied to the for bail at the Supreme Court pending determination.
Mussa made the application through his lawyer Chancy Gondwe.
He has attributed his decition due to delay in the commencement of his appeal case at the Supreme Court.
Mussa said he is afraid that he may complete serving the five-year sentence before the appeal is heard.
“Further, there is a very high possibility of the appellant serving his whole sentence before the hearing and determination of the appeal.
“In view of the aforesaid matters, it will be in the interest of justice, having considered the special circumstances of this matter to grant bail to the 1st appellant [Mussa] on conditions and terms that this court would deem fit,” reads in part the affidavit.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss Mussa’s application.
