The beef between Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Nhlanhla Lux and his Operation Dudula has taken a new twist as the EFF will accompany Victor Ramerafe to open a criminal case against Lux.
Victor Ramerafe, 59, had his home broken into by Operation Dudula activists, who were accusing him of selling drugs.
The EFF said in a statement: “The EFF will accompany Ntate Ramerafe, who will open a case against Nhlanhla Lux for breaking and entering into his home, as well as intimidation and assault.”
The party added that it will be opening the case at Dobsonville Police Station in Gauteng today at 11am.
Ramerafe said some of the Operation Dudula activists broke down burglar bars to gain entry into his home in Dobsonville, Soweto, while he was not around.
When he got there, he arrived to a large crowd chanting struggle songs as they ordered him to open in order for them to search for drugs.
Ramerafe is an EFF member, fondly known as “Bra Razo” within EFF circles, the Sowetan quoted EFF.
“This is bad. They harassed this old man like that. This is the general abuse that Operation Dudula is inflicting on innocent people in our community. Vigilantism operates like that. They don’t operate from a basis of evidence,” EFF spokesman spokesperson Sinawo Tambo said.
The EFF has been publicly condemning Operation Dudula groups who stand accused of taking the law into their own hands, including on the eviction of allegedly undocumented foreign nationals. The group is also on a drive to fight drug dealers in South Africa.
Julius Malema has on several occasions labeled Nhlanhla Lux and his group a “bunch if criminals, including in Parliament and at a rally.
Nhlanhla Lux said on a Podcast And Chill episode that he will not retaliate and respond to Julius Malema. He said Malema needs to be shown love because he has been fighting opposition all his life.
“The next time I see Julius Malema, I’m going to give him a hug”, Lux said.
