President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has urged Malawians especially farmers to take Tobacco Farming as a serious business,
Chakwera made the call when he was opening the 2022 Tobacco Marketing Season at Kanengo Auction Floors in the capital Lilongwe.
In his speech Chakwera urged players in the Tobacco industry to comply with the law if the country is to develop.
“Tobacco farming is serious business and must never be taken lightly by anyone and non-compliance in the industry must be dealt with by Malawians,” he said.
He said despite the country experiencing prolonged drought Malawi, the nation is going to be food sufficient.
The highest price for the green gold leaf is $1.67 while average price is $1.30 this has been shown at the inspection of tobacco available at the Kanengo Auction Floors.
The Market has already licenced nine tobacco buying companies, this gives high expectations to farmers for high constant prices.
