Blantyre Archdiocese Vicar General for the Catholic Church, Monsignor Boniface Tamani has blasted what he called selfishness among politicians, saying this is not good for the country.

Tamani said this during a memorial service of late Bingu wa Mutharika, founder of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

He said the country needs strong opposition to provide checks and balances to the current government unlike politicking.

“This selfishness must stop. Currently we have a weak opposition, that is why i am appealing to you Honorable Atupele Muluzi and others to start working together, I repeat, to start working together because this country needs a strong opposition,” said Tamani.

The Catholic priest has also asked Malawians to respect former leaders Bakili Muluzi and Peter Mutharika who each made recommendable contributions to Malawi’s development.
