Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Nsanje Lalanje Gladys Ganda has trashed rumours hovering on social media that she rejected construction of a Tollgate at Sorjin in the district.

Ganda’s reaction follows a decision by the Nsanje District Council to approve the setting up of a toll gate at Sorgin in the district.

“I am shocked to read a fake story that I have rejected a Tollgate at Sorjin in my Constituency. Do no believe it. Total lies.

“The issue involves approved projects by the Council and demanding funding through DDF,”wrote Ganda.

She added: “Nsanje District Council during one of the Reform Meetings approved projects for each Constituency of the District and my Constituency was allocated 1. An Irrigation Scheme at Nyamitalala, 2. Piped water system at Sorjin, 3. Piped water system at Lalanje and 4, a School block at Zibakhwe.

“What do we hear today during the Council meeting? Totally different. There is a new project to construct a Tollgate at Sorjin and this is reflecting as a DDF project meant for my Constituency Nsanje Lalanje. This is where I am surprised that this project was not approved by the Council and that it is a national project. Why use an allocation for a Constituency, divert the funds to a different project without discussing?

“This is where I fear for abuse and misuse of the DDF which could have been a syndicate to deprive people of Nsanje Lalanje from benefting with an Irrigation Scheme meant for food security yet in the presentation of this Tollgate, it is meant for collection of revenue for paying salaries and other utility bills for Nsanje District Council.”
