Information reaching FaceofMalawi News desk has revealed that President Lazarus Chakwera will not attend the funeral ceremony of his late Sister Mirriam Chakwera today Wednesday in Dowa, as he is en route to Mozambiquetomorrow.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement yesterday that Chakwera will leave Malawi on 21 April and return home on 24 April.

According to the Ministry, in Mozambique Chakwera will preside over the launch of the Mozambique-Malawi Power interconnector in Tete.

The Malawi leader will also visit the Port of Nacala, and hold bilateral talks with Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.

Chakwera has since delegated the First Lady Monica Chakwera and the Vice-President Saulos Chilima to attend the funeral ceremony.

Late Mirriam has passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2022, and will be laid to rest at Manase Village at Mdika in Dowa District.

State House on Monday said Chakwera had canceled all his public engagements.

Over the past two weeks, Chakwera has been conducting crop inspection exercises in various districts across the country.
