Police at Kawale in Lilongwe have arrested 30-year-old Godfrey Nyoni for allegedly killing 34-year-old Madaliso Simkonda after a quarrel at a drinking joint in Area 23.
Kawale Police Station spokesperson, Mabvuto Phiri, has told Times that on April 11, 2022 Nyoni and Simkonda met at a nightclub at Chadza Market in Area 23 where Nyoni went to drink alcohol while Simkonda was plying his mang’ina business.
According to Phiri, when the two met, they picked a quarrel and Nyoni hit Simkonda with a fist and he instantly fell down and lost consciousness after his head hit the ground.
Simkonda was taken to Kamuzu Barracks Hospital where he was later referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH).
He died on April 13, 2022 while receiving treatment at KCH.
Phiri says the suspect has been on the run until April 22, when Kawale Police detectives spotted him at his workplace at Area 4 where they arrested him.
He is expected to answer a charge of murder when he appears in court.
