Zambia’s local government minister Gary Nkombo is under fire for forcing a woman and her children to drink locally brewed alcohol known as Kachasu before pouring in to the ground.
Yesterday, the minister who was in company with police officers invaded some parts of Lusaka pouncing on Kachasu brewing businesses.
When Nkombo and his delegates found a woman brewing Kachasu, he forced her alongside her children to drink it.
The helpless woman, drunk the Kachasu before the minister asked her to call her children and make them drink as well.
“Drink, finish it, you cannot? do you have children? Call her children, you should share with them because you give other people’s children… You are her child? drink, continue, is that your sister? Give it to her, you should finish,” Nkombo is heard telling the woman.
However, Nkombo’s actions have sparked debate as Zambians are condemning him.
Others are calling for his firing arguing that what he has done is not human at all.
However, the Lusaka residents whose businesses have been pounced on are calling for justice.
According to them that’s how they survive if the government does not want them to be engaged in Kachasu business they should be given financial support to sustain their families.
Government is yet to comment on the matter.
Kachasu also known as Lutuku is an illegal traditional distilled beverage from Zambia, Zimbabwe, DR Congo and Malawi consumed mainly in rural parts and poor urban suburbs.
