The Ministry of Local Government has announced that Eid Ul Fitr’s prayers will be held either on Monday, May 2 or Tuesday, May 3, 2022, depending on the sighting of the moon.

The prayers are held to mark the end of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.

With advice from the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM), if the prayers are conducted on Monday, the public holiday will be observed on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

Secretary for Local Government James Chiusiwa has said this in a statement.

On May 2, 2022, Malawians will also observe Labour Day which falls on a Sunday this year.
