Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will help Nsanje Distirict with completion of a Youth Centre with funding from the Federation International of Football Association (FIFA).
According to Sherrif Malunga, Nsanje District Sports Officer, the construction of the Youth Center commenced in 2019 but received a setback following the fall of cyclone Idai in the district.
“The district was heavily affected by Cyclone Idai in 2019 and this year by cyclone ANA which left many structures and properties damaged, including the youth centre”, said Malunga
He said, this is the reason the football governing body will assist the Nsanje District Council in the construction of the youth centre in the district.
“Cyclone Ana and Idai are the more reason that the country’s football governing body would like to assist Nsanje District Council with the construction of the youth centre”, he said.
Malunga added that it is worrisome that the district has registered slow progress in the sporting activities due to lack of good sporting infrastructure.
Commenting on the matter, Israel Komzani, Nsanje Medicals FC player said attempts by Nsanje District Council to construct the ground has been there but to no avail.
“We have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and it has been our prayer that one day a youth centre will be constructed here in Nsanje. I am very much happy about the development and it’s a motivating favor to the sports lovers in the district”, Komzani concluded
The Youth Centre will act as a meeting point for many youth, where they will share different ideas on how to progress in life.
