Illovo Sugar Company through its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lekani Katundula said the implementation of Malawi 2063 will be possible if all Malawians join hands and support the enablers.
He was speaking this in Lilongwe on Tuesday during the eighth Eminent Speaker’s Series in Nzotheka initiative being lead by National Planning Commission (NPC), Mwapata Institute and Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR).
Katundula said the country has a 10 year old implementation plan which can be achieved only if the government uses the available rovers to implement the priority projects which could be used as a resource to fund other key projects.
“We cannot do everything at one goal. We need to do things step by step with determination and clear direction on what we want to achieve. The choices, we are making should be for the benefit of the country as a whole,” he said
According to Professor Emmanuel Kaunda, Vice Chancellor of LUANAR said the initiative has helped Malawians to provide possible input on the implementation of Malawi 2063.
“There are issues in the agriculture sector which have worked and people need to copy from them to boost crop production in the country”, Kaunda said
Commenting on the matter Tione Malizani, Phata Cooperatives Officer said engaging farmers in the cooperatives could be an instrumental in the implementation of Malawi 2063 in the agriculture sector.
“When farmers are encouraged to work in cooperatives they have the chance of collecting bargaining in the sale of their products than being in individuals”, Malizani said
