President of the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Peter Mutharika has said kondwani the act by Kondwani Nankhumwa’s camp to hold a rally at Mgona Ground in Lilongwe just days after after another DPP member organized a rally at the same place is an act of indiscipline.
In a statement seen by this publication, Mutharika said DPP leadership was never consulted nor informed of the rally organized by the party’s Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey alongside Nankhumwa and others.
According to Mutharika, they would advised the Nankhumwa camp to hold their rally else where considering that their friends had also held their event at the same place.
“Ms. Grezelder Jeffrey never consulted the party and its leadership to seek approval for the rally that was conducted on May 1, 2022 presided over by Honourable Kondwani Nankhumwa. Had Ms. Jeffrey consulted, she would have been directed that this rally be conducted else where and or at some other time,” said Mutharika.
Mutharika continued that DPP is a party of democrats, order, discipline and respect of its constitution but what Jeffrey and Nankhumwa did was out of order and an act of indiscipline and disloyalty.
he then called on the two to be in forefront in respecting the party’s ideologies.
Jeffrey and Nankhumwa, held the rally at Mgona Ground just two days after DPP’s regional Committee of the central region held a similar event at the very same venue a development which attracted mixed reactions from the members of the general public.
