Offices of Ministry of Lands that were sealed by Malawi Property Company Limited (MPICO) plc over non-payment of rentals, have been opened.
Ministry of Lands officials confirmed this morning to Parliament’s committee on transport and public infrastructure.
According to the Ministry’s principle secretary Reyneck Matemba, the offices were re-opened after negotiating with MPICO.
“All necessary measures are being undertaken to avoid this scenario in future,” Matemba said.
Ministry of lands offices were sealed on April 25 due to an outstanding debt of K5.8 billion rental arrears which the ministry is yet to pay.
Mpico sealed Tikwere and Zowe office buildings which house a number of offices for the ministry owing to rental arrears that accumulated for over 20 months.
