Malawi leader Lazarus Chakwera has said infrastructure development is not a political favor but a constitutional right for every Malawian.

The president made the remarks today at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) during the opening of Gateway Administration Building and Teaching Complex.

Chakwera also observed that the citizens are very slow in making decisions towards development and the country needs results not processes.

“The nation should set deadlines as the country is failing to grow because the citizens are very slow in making decisions towards development, adding that the country needs results not processes”, Chakwera said

The teaching complex is a two storey building comprising of two new lecture theatres that will accommodate 410 students compared in the past where the smaller lecture theatre accommodated 120 students per time.

On the other hand the administration block is a four storey building comprises of the office space and boardroom facilities.

Speaking after the opening, Professor Emmanuel Kaunda, Vice-Chancellor said the construction of the building started in 2008 and due to financial challenges it has taken so long to be finished.

“The construction of the facility has taken so long to be finished because of financial problems”, said Professor Kaunda

Chairperson of LUANAR Council, Professor Zachary Kasomekera appreciated the President government for providing with financial support for completing the project.

“Sir, we thank you because once you assumed power, your government immediately provided financial resources to finish the stalled project whose construction works started back in 2008,” said Professor Kasomekera.

The project has taken 13 billion kwacha to be completed and this kind of development is part of the University growth through the act of Parliament in 2011.

The developments are part of the growth of the University which was delinked from the University of Malawi through an act of Parliament back in 2011.
