Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has said that the Tonse Alliance will be booted out of power come 2025 for failing to fulfill some of the campaign promises.
Chimbanga said this as he was saluting DPP supporters who have remained royal to party despite infighting over who will succeed former President Peter Mutharika.
In the statement, Chimbanga urged party supporters not to trust few individuals who are bringing confusion in the party for self-interest.
“The Succession fight while it is normal and healthy in any democratic dispensation must not divide us.
“This shows how the Party is attractive enough that so many would like to lead it against the outgoing Tonse Alliance administration which is on its way out of government having failed Malawians,” wrote Chimbanga.
He added: “I write to you to encourage you that you should maintain the support you have always rendered to the Party and must not be distracted by the power struggle.
“Do not be misguided by power-hungry leaders who are in a hurry to wrestle power or anyone encouraging divisions. Do not be misled by anyone.
“The President of the Party remains His Excellency, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and according to a court order, the Leader of Opposition is supposed to consult the President on his decisions.”
DPP is currently locked up in leadership crisis with two camps fighting for the leadership of the party come 2025.
The first came is led by DPP Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa while the other camp is being led by Mutharika.
