Police in Chikwawa have recovered a firearm known as Muzzleloader and have launched a manhunt for the owner who is at large.

Chikwawa Police Station spokesperson Dickson Matemba said the Police unit received a complaint from a certain woman that her husband Damiano Gome 36, of Suweni Village, Traditional Authority Ndakwera in Chikwawa District whom she separated from had been intimidating her to kill her with a gun.

Matemba said it has been revealed that Gome was illegally cultivating and staying in Lengwe National park.

A follow-up was made on May 6, 2022, whereby a joint operation by Police and Wildlife Assistants was made who located him at the place where he was staying.

Then at a distance, he noticed something strange and started running away leaving behind his Muzzleloader which the police have seized.

Meanwhile, investigations have been put in place to trace his whereabouts.

Once arrested he will answer several charges ranging from Illegal possession of firearms, intimidation, land encroachment, and conveying weapons in a protected area.

Meanwhile, Police in the District warns people to report any person who keeps or possesses illegal firearms to the Police in order to prevent the fear of crime.
