Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka has said the party’s torchbearer for the 2025 Presidential polls will be elected at the convention.

Mkaka’s sentiments contradict the recent endorsement made by MCP First Deputy Secretary General Catherine Gotani Hara.

Hara endorsed President Chakwera as the party’s torchbearer in the forthcoming Presidential polls.

“For the Bible says, ‘Whatsoever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven.’ We are here binding that come 2025 our President is Chakwera, and what we have bound here, no-one shall loosen it, for it has been fully bound.” Said Hara while attracting ululations from people who gathered at the event.

But speaking in an interview with the press Mkaka said MCP torchbearer will be known at the convention slated for 2024.

Several top officials led by MCP Vice President for the North Harry Mkandawire have endorsed Chakwera.
