The Blantyre City Council (BCC) has told property owners especially infrastructure in the city to paint and beautify their premises and properties in redness for the Independence Day celebrations on 6 July.

Lytton Nkata, BCC Acting Chief Executive Officer appealed to business operators and property owners in the central business districts of Blantyre and Limbe.

In the statement Nkata said works should focus on maintenance and repairing of buildings, rehabilitation of surrounding lawns and gardens and maintenance and installation of lighting fixtures for better ambience at night.

“The buildings should be repaired and at the same time maintained if it has cracks and damages not forgetting the fixing the lights”, he said

According to him, the works should be done by 21 June and advised the business owners to provide refuse bins on their premises.

“This will ensure that waste is not strewn along streets and is properly stored as it awaits collection,” said Nkata.

Malawi will be celebrating 58 years of independence on 6 July after British rule.
