Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) has started implementing the project of free water connection and targets almost 5,000 customers.

Speaking on a media briefing, Rita Makwangwala, SRWB Public Relations Officer (PRO) said the free water connection has started in the five zones that the Board Operates which are Zomba, Liwonde, Mangochi, Mulanje and Ngabu.

According to Makwangwala, SRWB has received 1,200 applications from all the 25 supply areas that were under survey and are in line with the government policy of free water connection applicable to domestic customers.

“Apart from connecting customer’s applying for domestic use, the board will only be responsible for a distance of 24 metres which means a customer whose house is beyond 24 metres will have to buy materials for the remaining distance,” she explained

The free water connection was introduced in Malawi for everyone to have clean water in their households regardless of township in order to achieve 2063 goal.
