President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is expected to leave the country for Switzerland to attend the World Economic forum which will take place from 21 to 25 May 2022.

The plane carrying President Chakwera is expected to depart Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) at around 7pm today

Ministry of Foreign affairs has confirmed of the trip in a statement seen by this publication.

The statement says the 5 days meeting is aiming at equitable and fair global economic recovery due to the covid-19 pandemic, climate change induced disasters and the war in Ukraine which has caused economic turmoil all over the world mainly in low income and venerable economics.

After attending the economic forum, Chakwera is expected to proceed to another conference in Equatorial Guinea where he will attend a 2 days 15th Extra-ordinary Summit meeting of the African Union on Terrorism and Unconstitutional changes of Government.

The aim of the Equatorial Guinea’s meeting is to consolidate efforts by African leaders to address humanitarian challenges Africa is facing and developing resource mobilization strategies and developing sustainable solutions to terrorism.

Chakwera is expected to arrive home on Sunday the 29 May 2022.
