Government through the Ministry of Trade has issued 20 licenses to cooking oil importers to cover up the current crisis of cooking oil shortages,

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Trade Mayeso Msokera confirmed the development.

According to Msokera this is a short term measure to stabilize supply and prices of cooking oil on the market.

Msokera added that government is yet to issue more licenses on the same.

The country has been hit with low supply of the product following disagreement between governments and cooking oil manufacture companies on the product’s prices.

Early this week government imposed prices of cooking oil which resulted to companies hold back the product as a sign of disagreeing with government on the matter.

Commenting on the matter, Centre for Social Concern Programs Officer Responsible for Justice Brian Mphepo called on government to sort long term solution.

According to Mphepo, government should look beyond imports to solve the rising prices for cooking oil.
