An old man has drowned in Lingadzi River in Salima District when he was coming from a drinking spree.
Salima Police publicist, Jacob Khembo identifies the deceased as Steven Moyenda Chilambe 2 Village, Traditional Authority Mwanza in the district.
Khembo says Moyenda’s son told the police that Sunday afternoon Moyenda crossed the river to drink beer at Chilombe 1 Village and was discovered floating lifeless the following morning.
“Police rushed to the scene together with medical personnel from Salima District Hospital. A postmortem has revealed that he died due to suffocation secondary to drowning,” says Khembo.
Meanwhile, the police has since warned people in the district against crossing rivers while drunk.
