Police in Mulanje district have arrested a 23-year-old man, Gaffu for stubbing a fellow man over a sex worker at Namulenga Trading Centre.

Reports say Gaffu wanted to spend the night of 23 May 2022 with Sitilia (sex worker) but due to the price offered, Sitilia refused instead she went to the other man who promised a higher price.

According to Veronica Gerald Maluwa, a Namulenga community member, she heard a man crying for help around 11:45 PM and together with the husband were afraid to open the door since they thought it was a new trick for the thieves to steal from people during night hours.

“I tried to phone people around my house and since it was night, some people were not picking their phones while others took so long to respond to the calls,” she said.

Maluwa said the main reason of calling the people was to make sure the man who was calling for help was not a robber.

“It took so long for people to come out of their houses, so we had no option, that is why my husband took the risk of going out at mid-night to to wake up the neighbors,” she added.

She said when people started to gather at the scene she came out from the house to explain to them what had actually happened and they agreed to call the nearest police unit about the incident.

Immediately, Police officers from Namulenga police unit arrived at the scene and informed their superiors at Mulanje district police.

Mulanje police offered a vehicle which carried the man to Mulanje district hospital for treatment.

“By the time the police vehicle arrived the man had stopped speaking and his face was soaked in blood, people could not recognize him,” she continued.

Another source, Navaka said he went to the drinking spot where the stubbed man was taking his drinks and questioned the bar man but the bar man responded that he was not aware of everything that happened.

“After i saw what happened, i went to the bar to find out what had really happened to reach that extent, i saw more blood and bottle glasses all over the bar veranda, it was so pathetic only God will help the man to be well,” Said Navaka while sobbing in tears.

Police are yet comment on the matter since the matter is under investigation.

Gaffu was arrested in the early hours of 24 May, 2022 in Mulunguzi village where he was about to flee to Blantyre City.

He comes from Chapweteka village T/A Juma in the same district and he is yet to be transferred to Mulanje district police station where he will proceed to court to answer his chargers of attempting murder.
