Chayamba Secondary School in Kasungu has been indefinitely closed after violent protests by students.

The irate students have burnt to ashes the headteacher’s office and also damaged the houses of some members of staff.

Reports reveal that nine students were reluctant to leave the school campus despite authorities ordering them to for their bullying tendencies.

An eyewitness says this prompted the school management to inform the police who picked the nine for questioning.

“This did not please the other students who demanded their release and resorted to violence,” says an eyewitness.

Meanwhile, police have tightened security at the school campus to ensure calm is restored.
