Vendors this morning scrambled to buy sugar from a Chipiku Stores shop at Chitipa Boma following rumors that the commodity might become scarce in the run up to the month end.
One of the vendors identified as Davie Kanyika said reports were rifle yesterday that sugar will become scarce in wholesale shops at the Boma, which created fear among vendors hence flocking to the store in large numbers to purchase the commodity.
Reports are indicating that each vendor is allowed to buy up to three bales of sugar only at around 17 thousand Kwacha per bale.
Meanwhile, Illovo Sugar Company has assured Malawians of enough supply.
