Malawi leader Lazarus Chakwera has given the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) a 21 day ultimatum to serve his office with a report on investigations regarding a United Kingdom based Malawian businessman Zuneth Sattar who is accused of practicing corruption activities and implicate other profile people in the Chakwera led administration.

Chakwera said this yesterday when he addressed the nation at Kamuzu palace where he tackled issues he described as matters of the nation interests.

Last week, social media platforms and mainstream media reported that senior officials in the Tonse Alliance government including vice President Saulos Chilima have been named in the UK court as some the people involved in corruption activities allegedly initiated by Sattar.

Chakwera, who said cannot take any step regarding the issue since the mentioned people have not been questioned or given a platform to clear their names on the same has since called on the ACB which is working hand in hand with the UK government on investigating Sattar to expedite the investigations.

“I would expect that a specific report on this issue be made available within 21 days to allow my office and the country to be appraised, as Malawians have every right to know the extent of the whole thing and the actions that will be taken on it,” said Chakwera.

Chakwera who said that he is committed to help the ACB with much funding as it needs adding that he will not shield anyone involved in corruption activities and is formally charged by the courts.

“So far, I have allocated the ACB more funding than ever before; I have regularly promoted and enforced a policy of non-interference among my Ministers; and when appointed the Director General, I directed my own office to bear the cost of a more secure home than what was provided for in her contract. But I am ready to do more to support her,” said Chakwera.

In the meantime, every person who has been named in the Sattar list has not come out to defend themselves, on the other hand Chilima has refused to comment on the matter when he was asking by the members of the press in Mzuzu to give an explanation on his alleged involvement into the Sattar corruption scandal.
