Man Handed 10 Years Imprisonment over Zomba Police Rifle Theft

Zomba Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda has sentenced 25-year-old Yohane Phiri to 10 years imprisonment for breaking into Zomba Police Station where he stole a K2c automatic rifle with 10 rounds of ammunition and two cell phones belonging to two police officers on 15 February.

Phiri pleaded guilty to charges of breaking into a building and committing a felony.

The robbery resulted in three police officers, who were on duty on the day, being charged with negligence by a public officer in preserving property and are currently on bail.

Phiri hails from Utali village Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka District.
