The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Martha Chizuma has said the bureau will meet the deadline given by President Lazarus Chakwera to submit a report regarding the investigations on United Kingdom Based Malawian businessman Zuneth Sattar Corruption scandal.
President Chakwera when addressing the press on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, gave the ACB 21 days to serve his office with a report on investigations that Sattar’s alleged corruption activities have implicated high profile people in his administration including his second in command, Saulos Chilima.
In her response, Chizuma said the bureau watched the presser and heard the president’s directive and they are working on meeting the deadline.
“As a bureau, we watched when the president was addressing the nation and we took note of the 21 days. We are already working towards that, “said Chizuma.
However, Chizuma was quick to point out that the bureau is conducting its own investigations on the matter, meaning to say it is not relying on a list released by the UK National Crimes Agency, according to her the information from the UK is not new as it may seem because they already knew the information from UK.
Chizuma also denied revealing names involved in corruption activities allegedly initiated by Sattar saying this not the right time to request such.
“It may not be the right time to consider those kind of requests because we are concentrating on the 21 days that the president has given us. We believe that after the 21 days as the President rightly put it, Malawians have all the right to know,” Chizuma said.
Last week, social media platforms and mainstream media reported that senior officials in the Tonse Alliance government including vice Chilima, police chief George Kainja and State House’ chief of staff have been named in the UK court as some the people involved in corruption activities allegedly initiated by Sattar.
