United Transformation Movement (UTM) spokesperson Frank Tumpale Mwenefumbo has pleaded with the Tonse Alliance government to consider fulfilling one of its campaign promises by constructing the new Airport in Mzuzu.
Mwenefumbo’s plea follows report that the government is planning to raze down Chileka Airport and construct the new state of the art Airport.
Writing on his official facebook page Mwenefumbo could not hide his sadness considering that the North has no functional airport.
“The news , as reported by Zodiak online , that the functioning Chileka Airport will be razed down next month and embark on the construction of a completely new Airport is pleasing , however our Government should be reminded that The Northern city of Mzuzu does not have a single usable Airport , thereby depriving the entire Northern Region populace of Air transport .
“The Northern part of Malawi is endowed with many tourist attractions such as The Nyika National Park , The Vwaza Game Reserve , The Viphya and Livingstonia plateaux , Mafinga Hills , Misuku Hills , The tropical forests of Vizara at nkhatabay and many other beautiful scenic views , as such it equally deserves consideration for such an important and strategic infrastructure . We wait hopelessly!!,” wrote Mwenefumbo.
During campaign, Chakwera promised to construct an International Airport which will be named after Orton Chirwa.
