POLICE have launched a manhunt for a 33 year old man of Matero in Lusaka who is allegedly on the run for beating his baby mama after he was reported for failing to pay child support.
It is reported that Saranda Sam Tonga, meandering through the dark alleys of Lusaka in incognito mode due to a warrant of arrest issued out for him, found the victim, Chikondi Mbewe, 32, in Emmasdale on May 29 where he beat her up, to the extent of passing out.
Tonga then took Chikondi to Matero where she was left for dead but some good Samaritans came to her aid and took her to the hospital.
Someone close to the victim has disclosed to Kalemba that Tonga allegedly refused to pay K800 for child support which the court ordered him to pay for his two year old child.
It is reported that the court called for Tonga’s presence over the issue but did not honour the ‘invitation,’ prompting the court to cite him for contempt.
Chikondi is currently out of hospital but in a bad condition.
She is living in fear after the incident left her with a swollen face and multiple bruises.
Zambia police spokesperson Rae Hamonoga confirmed the case to Kalemba.
Hamoonga said the police in Matero are still looking for the suspect.
