A MAN of Mufulira on the copperbelt has been jailed for 16 years for raping his young sister.

Mwaba Mwansa, 25, was charged and convicted by the Mufulira magistrate court for rape committed on February 22, last year.

The evidence on record indicates that the victim and Mwansa were blood related.

The incident happened at the time when the victim was in her room sleeping when she saw her brother enter while putting on boxer pants and forced himself on her.

Mwansa covered her mouth but she managed to shout for help which attracted their elder brother who rescued her.

The matter was reported to the police and Mwansa was arrested and charged with rape.

In sentencing Mwansa, Ndola High Court Judge Daniel Musonda said he was satisfied with the conviction.

“I have taken note of the circumstances in which this offence was committed, the act should not have happened between blood relations.”

“I therefore sentence you to 16 years imprisonment with hard labour,” he said.
