The Agriculture Committee of Parliament has asked ADMARC to suspend the Zimbabwe maize sale deal, saying the picture of this year’s yields in Malawi is uncertain.

Chairperson of the committee Sameer Suleiman said most parts of the country such as Likoma have been asking ADMARC to provide them with maize for people to buy, but the Corporation has been ignoring the call.

According to Seleiman, Zimbabwe is not buying the Maize because they do not have it but because it is cheap.

On his part Board Chairperson for ADMARC Alexander Kusamba Dzonzi said they spend about K300 million a month on storage services for the maize that is in stock, hence, requesting the Agriculture Committee of Parliament to allow them to sell the maize, in order to cut on-costs apart from paying back loans.
