Pressure has forced President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to cancel his trip to Sun ‘n’ Sand Holiday Resort where he was scheduled to attend a two day Environmental Conference and Annual General Meeting.
The conference came barely days after the newly appointed Secretary to President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba effected a ban on all Lake-shore conference by all Civil Servants with an aim of serving public funds.
State House Press Officer Anthony Kasunda has confirmed the President’s U-turn on the matter.
“The President is not attending any meeting at Sun ‘n’ Sand. The only Government office that communicates officially about the President’s public programme is the President’s office, and there has been no communication from His Excellency’s office to suggest anything of the sort” said Anthony Kasunda.
A poster which has gone viral on social media indicates that President Chakwera will be the guest of honour at an environmental health conference to take place at the resort in Mangochi.
