Archbishop Thomas Msusa of Blantyre Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church has condemned authorities for calling names Malawians who complain of social injustices.

Msusa was speaking during celebration of holy trinity and feast of confirmation at Saint Martins Parish in Blantyre.

Msusa’s remarks came following a trending audio by Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola, who was held calling Malawians ‘Achule’ (frogs). In the audio, Matola urged president Lazarus Chakwera not to take advice from Malawians who were asking him to stop local and international travels through a proverb “the sound of frogs does not stop an elephant from drinking water”.

According to Matola, he referred President Chakwera as the the elephant and that he should not be moved by the disturbing sound.

This did not please many Malawians who demanded an apology from Matola.

Speaking through his Public Relations Officer Marshall Dyton, Matola said he never meant to despise anyone but rather to encourage Chakwera to continue with his development plans regardless of obstacles surrounding him.
