Seven ward councillors in Balaka district have sealed the office of acting district commissioner (DC) for allegedly inefficiency and gross misappropriation of council funds.

Council chairperson Michael Sauka jr alleged in an interview that most sectors of the district council have abused their resources but the acting DC has been refusing to meet the councillors for a roundtable discussion.

“We sought audience several times but the DC vehemently refused to grant us one, alleging sector heads were not keen to meet.

“The secretariat led by the acting DC are acting unilaterally on important decisions affecting the council. We don’t want his presence here. The acting DC should go and serve elsewhere because as citizens and duty-bearers of Balaka we cannot accept mediocrity,” Sauka said.

The acting DC Darwin Mngoli when reached for his comment promised to come back to us with a response later.

About 17 sectors have been warned that come Monday their offices will also be sealed if the DC does not act promptly.
