President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is holding an emergency meeting with Cabinet Ministers at Kamuzu Palace following a rise in fuel in the country as announced by the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) last night.
State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also President of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) is also attending the meeting.
High on the agenda are issues of economic management in view of the rising cost of living and commodities like fuel, as well as a review of existing and upcoming measures for cutting public spending in pursuit of the President’s austerity stance announced on May 31.
