Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has stripped off power from his deputy president after the DP was involved in a corruption scandal that is still under investigation.

Though the Malawian constitution doesn’t allow him to fire his deputy, the president relieved the DP off his duties until the allegations are proven.

This happens weeks after the president attended a function in Kenya during a time when the relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto had soured.

Kenyans on media had a lot to comment about the story with some saying that the Malawian president had copied the move from Uhuru Kenyatta.

Here are some of the top comments on the story.

Jacob Muriungi, “Does it mean that it’s only deputy presidents who are corrupt? African presidents should stop hypocrisy and serve those who voted them.”

Mwangi Wilson, “It happened in Kenya and was a great save. Uhuru Kenyatta second term is not marred with corruption.”

Jimmy Muigai, “he came to Kenya n saw how a rogue deputy can behave!!!”
